What is an administrative assistant and what do they do?

An administrative assistant is basically a fancy name for a secretary. Some things I’ll do in a typical work day consist of scheduling meetings and events, planning those meetings and events, arranging the hotel rooms and meals and schedules of the company’s guests (e.g., potential suppliers, guest photographers, models who live out of town, or other important visitors.) I also put in orders all sorts of things, including fabrics, materials, set pieces, flowers, food, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.

Of course, there is always the boring secretarial work like making copies, responding to emails, faxing, and filing.
